STAR Sports
The STAR sports teams are organized and run by the STAR program at Canyon Charter. The vision was to create a program that organized soccer & basketball leagues at the elementary school level. The teams were first organized in 1998 by former STAR Director Carlos Velado. 13 years and over 20 STAR sites later, over 15,000 children throughout the county of Los Angeles have participated in the sports leagues set up by STAR Education. Each team is formed around a good representation of the student body. Academic eligibility, skill, sportsmanship, and character are all taken into consideration when selecting the team. The coach(s) make every effort for each team to be co-ed, of varying skill levels, and an overall good representation of Canyon Charter.
